Iran on Tuesday announced a maximum 15-day visa-free entry program for Indians arriving by air for tourism. The Iranian Embassy said visa-free entry facility for Indian citizens has been started from February 4 under four conditions.

Earlier in December, Iran had approved the visa-free program for 32 other countries including India, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.

A statement issued by Iran said that ordinary passport holders will be allowed to stay in the country for a maximum of 15 days without a visa once every six months.

According to a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy on Tuesday, with the new policy effective from February 4, Indian tourists do not need a visa to visit Iran. “Persons holding ordinary passports will be allowed to enter Iran without a visa once every six months, with a maximum stay of 15 days,” the embassy said in a statement. Visa-free entry applies only to persons entering Iran for tourism purposes. Indians visiting Iran for business or educational purposes will have to apply for visas under the respective categories. Those who wish to visit Iran more than once within a six-month period must obtain a visa.
